Xpannd™ at the end of its debut tour and ready to conquer the market

GIDUE newest offset UV press Xpannd™ has almost completed its debut tour around the globe. After showing off in Italy, Europe, America, Asia, Middle East and back to Europe (come see it in Graphispag, Barcelona, from February 19th to 25th – Level 0 Hall 3C Booth 370), Xpannd™ continues to arise people’s interest and its brilliant green outfit is recognised in main events everywhere. Green is the reference colour of GIDUE image, the colour of Intelligence. And Intelligence is the core of Xpannd™ as of the other two new machines in GIDUE range: Intelligent Combat™ and Athena™ UV flexo presses.


Intelligence is the true revolution and motor of the change in the perception of offset printing process for self adhesive labels. “The introduction of servo remotated Intelligence” explains d’Annunzio, President of GIDUE S.p.A. “makes possible the control of the variables, that, up to now, have been manually adjusted by the operator: quantity of ink and quantity of dampening solution in relation to the substrate and to the speed. Thanks to servo-assisted Intelligence we have all the data in a PC, controlling them and anticipating the differences caused by speed and substrate”.


The vocabulary related to the printing process is enriched by neologisms: Intelligent Register means automatic setup, Intelligent Printing is pressure adjustment and tension and temperature control is for GIDUE comparable to working with an Intelligent Web. Human intervention for adjustment is needed less and less and can be completely drifted to the control of the process and to the increase of productivity. Since servo-assisted operations don’t need highly specialised workers, any inexperienced printer can ensure the smoothest workflow.


The introduction of Intelligence in the new GIDUE offset press determines a further basic aspect: the possibility to work at 12 mt/min. Xpannd™ is the only offset press on the market, which is able to work at such a speed: in this sense it has been thought, patented and produced for the self adhesive market where low waste (to cope with short job runs and quick change-overs) and combined printing (flexography, screen, hot foil) are needed.


UV offset Xpannd™ most common configuration is two flexo groups, four to six offset groups and again two flexo groups. At least an additional silk screen unit is recommended. GIDUE has conceived the Xpannd™ to ensure the highest quality and productivity available today in the label industry, mainly working in two directions: general industrial labels and labels for the oil, wine and spirits industry. Aiming at conquering such a booming market as the one of wine labels, GIDUE is going to present in the nearest future the Xpannd offset/flexo combination equipped with a group for in line hot foil stamping and flat embossing. First stop: Graphispag, Barcelona!
