Nuceria Adesivi in Italy installs the first GIDUE “digital flexo” MASTER Combat™

Nuceria Adesivi S.r.l. , the major label converter in Italy and one of the fastest growing in Europe, invests in a new flexografic MASTER Combat™ by Nuova GIDUE, a manufacturer of flexographic and offset presses for the label and packaging industry.

Antonio Iannone, President of Nuceria Adesivi states: “Technology is the key to keep our growth profitable, the market has dramatically changed in the past 2 years, we felt we should launch a new investment program for our printing plants in Italy. We were looking for some true “revolution” in technology, to be flexible and profitable in our label offer. ”

Nuceria Adesivi and its related companies are currently running 27 press lines in 3 manufacturing sites in Italy. Offset and flexography are the main printing processes with letterpress and silk screen used for specific applications.

Arturo Stanzione, Production Manager of Nuceria Adesivi observes: “ at this stage of our growth, we had to invest in a real techno-breakthrough. We evaluated several presses and we have chosen GIDUE and the MASTER Combat™ , which showed some unique concepts. We knew GIDUE could do it, as our Combat presses are since years among the most profitable presses. But the final result is far better than our expectation. The MASTER Combat is already setting new standards for our internal label productivity.”

Nuceria Adesivi is growing every year at double digit growth rates, with almost 30% of sales which are delivered abroad, and over 50% of the sales to main international brand owners. Tight quality procedures and service flexibility are the key drivers to the company success.

Guido Iannone, Managing Director of one of the Nuceria Adesivi plants, adds: ” we produce our labels with standardized manufacturing procedures (WCM, Lean etc.). This involves a tight cooperation with our technology suppliers, GIDUE has “understood” our needs developing the MASTER Combat™ based on the requests of the label industry. As it often happened in the cooperation with GIDUE, the results have been not simple improvements but “a big step” which is simply not comparable with the past technologies. Frankly speaking, we had never seen a label press printing, die-cutting and stripping a PS Paper Label at 175 meters per minutes, in real production. On the same job with our current presses we could run at a maximum speed of 70-80 meters.”

The first MASTER Combat™ has been delivered in June 2010, an undisclosed number of GIDUE presses is due to be delivered to Nuceria Adesivi following an expansion program in the Italian and European label market.

Federico d’Annunzio, MD of Nuova GIDUE states: ”We wanted to design the label press “for the next years”, and Nuceria Adesivi has been of great support in the development. We followed a “digital” approach, at sensible prices, developing some revolutionary concepts like the Quick-Cut™ (automatic waste stripping), the Snow-Ball™ (a revolutionary high-speed waste stripping device) and the Print Tutor™ (closed-loop density and register control). Having seen the steep increase in productivity, and the “happiness” of Nuceria Adesivi producing with the press, I believe GIDUE and the MASTER Combat™ will “inspire” our industry for the following years.” The MASTER Combat™ can print aluminum foil, flexible packaging film, self-adhesive labels and carton, from 370 mm. to 630 mm. width. It is available with print sleeves or cylinders, it offers ultra-short or extended web path, and can integrate silk screen, hot stamping and gravure printing processes. MASTER Combat™ can also integrate the Offset Xpannd™ GIDUE Combination and Multi-Platform lines. Antonio Iannone, President of Nuceria Adesivi, concludes: “The MASTER Combat™ has surprised us since the very first days of installation. This press just changes the productivity parameters of the label industry. We feel we have made a significant step forward for the future of our company. I believe also that these “big step” technologies will be beneficial for the entire label industry.”
